The Alphonso mango, or Hapus Mango, is an appealing variety of mango known for its sweetness and smoothness, as well as its color and fragrance. The mango variety is originated from Maharashtra in India and is said to be one of the best mangoes in the world. The skin of Alphonso mangoes is very bright, golden yellow in color with a slight blush. The fruit is usually medium to large and has an oval form. They smell sweet and fruity and are somewhat spongy when ripe.

Mangoes are typically in season from late spring to early summer, depending on the region.
Mango season in Salem will start as early as March and will go all the way to July. However peak season is from April to June.

Mangoes originally come from South Asia, but now they are grown in many tropical countries around the world.
The quantity of Alphonso mangoes in 1 kilogram depends on their size. Mostly a reasonable size of Alphonso mango is expected to weigh about 2 to 4 pieces a kg. If it is a smaller mango, then it might be around 5 to 6 per kg, and if larger, it would probably be just 2 to 3. It’s advisable to look at the actual sizes before buying!
